All participants are advised to practice social distancing guidelines.

The gist: starting from Meriden’s Castle Craig, contestants have 6, 12 or 24 hours to escape from the Castle in any direction. The contestant(s) that have been able to get the furthest away in their chosen timeframe are the winners.

There are FIVE categories to compete in:

  1. solo 6 hour
  2. solo 12 hours
  3. solo 24 hour
  4. two-person relay 12 hour
  5. four-person relay 24 hour

There will be a men’s and women’s divisions for the solo races. There will be a men’s, women’s and mixed division category for the relay teams.

You and your team can decide where the handoff points will be since they will most likely be the ones crewing you on your leg. When your watch hits six hours, you’re done. Once you have finished a leg, you are done for the day (or night). One leg per contestant in any of the relay divisions.

This will be on the honor system- you will be asked to provide Strava, Garmin, Suunto, GPS links for verification. You’re essentially racing your watch, so I’ll go off of “elapsed time”.

You can use any combination of trails, rail trail and road you like. Just get as far away as possible from the Castle. This will be measured “as the crow flies” so don’t spend a bunch of time jackassing around on switchbacks. Wait, CT doesn’t have any switchbacks. You know what I mean. Just run. Far. In any direction.

Can you make it to New York City? Can you make it to Massachusetts? Providence, Rhode Island? New London? Maybe you get lost in Hartford? New Haven at night? You decide your route.

Please adhere to all traffic laws, stay off private property, use appropriate lighting at night, carry a map and don’t be a douche.

Race starts Saturday, July 4th at 12:00:00 AM and ends Sept. 7th, Labor Day Monday at 11:59:59 PM.

Awards from Ragged Cuts! Every participant will receive a Buff!

...and a portion of the proceeds will go to both Connecticut Forest and Parks Association AND The Connecticut Food Bank.
